What do you do for a living? What kind of changes did you experience during this period about your work?
I run a personal finance website based in Canada. The nature of my work has not changed, though our site has seen a significant drop in traffic due to the virus.
How much time were you spending commuting? Can you use that time efficiently?
I always work from home, so my commute hasn’t changed at all!
Did you start new projects/hobbies?
I was already reading quite a lot, but I’m reading even more these days. Right now I’m most of the way through re-reading Thinking, Fast and Slow.
When was the last time you met someone in person? And who was that person? (Including the delivery guy, pharmacist, etc.) Do you meet your friends? Do video-chat apps/programs (if you use any) meet your needs for socializing?
A few of my friends and I live very close by, so we still see each other quite regularly.
Would you prefer not to be alone during this period? Or are you happy being alone?
Since I’m still seeing my friends a few times a week, I don’t feel like I’m particularly alone. To be honest, my lifestyle hasn’t changed that much at all. I love living alone, so this hasn’t taken much of a toll on me.
Do you have any recommendations for others who are alone during the quarantine period?
Create something. We’re happiest when we’re learning and growing, so if you can’t do it socially, find a way to do it on your own.
All interviews within Together Alone are on the project page.
